Indications
- Symptomatic control of myasthenia gravis
- Prevention and treatment of postoperative distention
- Urinary retention reversal after surgery
Pharmacology
- Anticholinesterase agent
- Reversible cholinesterase inhibitor
- Stimulates nicotinic and muscarinic receptors
Dosage & Administration
- Adult dosage range: 2-5 mg
- Children dosage range: 0.05-0.25 mg/kg
- Duration of action: 2-4 hours
Interaction
- Does not antagonize depolarizing muscle relaxants
- Certain antibiotics may accentuate neuromuscular block
- Caution with local and general anesthetics
Contraindications
- Hypersensitivity to the drug
- Peritonitis or mechanical obstruction of the intestinal or urinary tract

- Cardiac arrhythmias

- Nausea, vomiting, diarrhea
- Involuntary urination
- Muscle cramps, paralysis
- Allergic reactions including anaphylaxis
Pregnancy & Lactation

- Use with caution in patients with epilepsy, bronchial asthma
- Atropine sulfate may be advisable with large doses
