Description
- Spasmolytic flavone derivative
- Acts by relaxing smooth muscle in the urinary tract
- Competitive muscarinic receptor antagonist
- Treatment of overactive bladder
- Management of urge urinary incontinence
- Alleviation of urinary frequency
Pharmacology
- Direct antagonist at muscarinic acetylcholine receptors
- Reduces tonus of smooth muscle in the bladder
- Reduces number of required voids
- Improves retention
- Facilitates increased volume per void
Dosage & Administration
- 100 mg to 200 mg 3 times a day for adults and children over 12 years of age
- Dose reduction with symptom improvement
- Safety and effectiveness not established in children below 12 years
Contraindications
- Obstructive conditions such as pyloric or duodenal obstruction
- Obstructive intestinal lesions or ileus
- Achalasia
- Gastrointestinal hemorrhage
- Obstructive uropathies of the lower urinary tract
Side Effects
- Gastrointestinal effects like nausea, vomiting, dry mouth
- CNS effects like vertigo, headache, mental confusion, drowsiness, nervousness
- Reversible leukopenia
- Cardiovascular effects including tachycardia and palpitation
- Allergic effects such as urticaria and dermatoses
- Ophthalmic effects like increased ocular tension and blurred vision

- Pregnancy Category B
- Caution during pregnancy
- Unknown excretion in human milk
- Caution during nursing
Precautions & Warnings
- Use cautiously in patients with suspected glaucoma
