Dosage Strengths
- 0.4mg
- 0.8mg
Dosage Instructions
- Take 1 capsule daily after a meal at night
- May increase to 2 capsules daily after 2 to 4 weeks if necessary
Administration Method
Oral, Swallow whole with a glass of water
Contraindications
- Hypersensitivity to Tamsulosin hydrochloride
- History of orthostatic hypotension
- Severe hepatic insufficiency
Indications
- Treatment of symptoms of Benign Prostatic Hyperplasia (BPH)
Pharmacology
- Selective alpha1 adrenoceptor blocking agent
- Relaxes smooth muscle in bladder neck and prostate
- Improvement in urine flow rate
- Reduction in symptoms of BPH
Absorption
Essentially complete (90%) following oral administration under fasting conditions
Time to Maximum Concentration
- 4-5 hours under fasting conditions
- 6-7 hours when administered with food

94% to 99%
Metabolism
Extensively metabolized by cytochrome P450 enzymes in the liver
Elimination Half-life
- 5-7 hours in plasma
- Approximately 9-13 hours in healthy volunteers
- 14-15 hours in the target population
Interactions
- Concomitant use of other alfa1-adrenoceptor antagonists
- No interactions observed with atenolol, enalapril, or nifedipine
- Concurrent cimetidine may raise plasma levels, frusemide may lower plasma levels
- No interactions at the level of hepatic metabolism with selected drugs
- Diclofenac and warfarin may increase the elimination rate

Pregnancy & Lactation
Not recommended for use during pregnancy and lactation
Precautions & Warnings
- Rare transient postural symptoms may occur
- Use in patients with micturition syncope is not advised
- Effect on ability to drive and use machines is not fully studied
Overdose Effects
- Acute hypotension likely to occur
- Cardiovascular support should be given
- Renal function monitoring and general supportive measures should be applied
- Gastric lavage and activated charcoal may be administered in case of acute overdosage
