- Relaxes smooth muscle in bladder neck and prostate
- Improvement in urine flow rate
- Reduction in symptoms of BPH
- Absorption rate under fasting and fed conditions
- Plasma protein binding
- Metabolism by cytochrome P 450 enzymes
- Elimination half-life
- Apparent half-life in healthy volunteers and target population
Dosage & Administration
- Tamsulosin Hydrochloride 0.4 mg daily
- Tamsulosin Hydrochloride 0.8 mg after 2 to 4 weeks if necessary
- Administration after meal at night
- Swallowing capsule whole with water
- No crunching or chewing
Interaction
- Concurrent administration with alpha1-adrenoceptor antagonists
- No interaction with atenolol, enalapril, nifedipine
- Cimetidine and frusemide effects on plasma levels
- No interactions at the level of hepatic metabolism
- Effect on elimination rate with diclofenac and warfarin
