Indications
- Treatment of functional symptoms of Benign Prostatic Hyperplasia (BPH)
Pharmacology
- Tamsulosin, a selective alpha1 adrenoceptor blocking agent
Dosage & Administration
- Tamsulosin Hydrochloride 0.4 mg (one capsule) daily, Increase to 0.8 mg if necessary after 2 to 4 weeks
Interaction
- Potential interactions with other alpha1-adrenoceptor antagonists, atenolol, enalapril, nifedipine, cimetidine, frusemide, amitriptyline, salbutamol, glibenclamide, finasteride, diclofenac, and warfarin
Contraindications
- Hypersensitivity to tamsulosin hydrochloride, history of orthostatic hypotension, severe hepatic insufficiency
Side Effects
- Dizziness, abnormal ejaculation, headache, asthenia, postural hypotension, palpitations
Pregnancy & Lactation
- Not recommended for use during pregnancy and lactation
Precautions & Warnings
- Rare occurrence of transient postural symptoms, caution in patients with micturition syncope, potential effect on ability to drive or operate machines
Overdose Effects
- Potential for acute hypotension, cardiovascular support may be necessary, renal function monitoring, support measures such as emesis and gastric lavage
