Indications
- Treatment of functional symptoms of Benign Prostatic Hyperplasia (BPH)
Pharmacology
- Selective alpha1 adrenoceptor blocking agent
- Relaxation of smooth muscle in bladder neck and prostate
- Improvement in urine flow rate
- Reduction in symptoms of BPH
- Absorption of Tamsulosin hydrochloride capsule 0.4mg
- Plasma protein binding (94% to 99%)
- Metabolism by cytochrome P450 enzymes
- Elimination half-life in plasma (five to seven hours)
- Apparent half-life in healthy volunteers
- Apparent half-life in target population
Dosage & Administration
- Tamsulosin Hydrochloride 0.4 mg (one capsule) daily
- Tamsulosin Hydrochloride 0.8 mg (two capsules) once daily
- Dosing after meal at night
- Swallowing whole with a glass of water
- Avoiding crushing or chewing
Interaction
- Concurrent administration of other alfa1-adrenoceptor antagonists
- No interactions with atenolol, enalapril, nifedipine
- Interactions with cimetidine and frusemide
- No interactions at the level of hepatic metabolism
- Potential interactions with diclofenac and warfarin

- Hypersensitivity
