Indications

Treatment of functional symptoms of Benign Prostatic Hyperplasia (BPH)

Pharmacology

Selective alpha1 adrenoceptor blocking agent
Relaxes smooth muscle in bladder neck and prostate
Improves urine flow rate
Reduces symptoms of BPH
Complete absorption (90%) under fasting conditions
Time to maximum concentration: 4-7 hours
High plasma protein binding (94-99%)
Extensive metabolism by liver enzymes
Elimination half-life: 5-15 hours

Dosage & Administration

0.4 mg (one capsule) daily after meal at night
Dose may be increased to 0.8 mg after 2-4 weeks
Swallow capsule whole with water (about 150 ml)
Avoid crushing or chewing the capsule

Interaction

Concurrent administration with alfa1-adrenoceptor antagonists
No interactions with atenolol, enalapril, or nifedipine
Cimetidine and frusemide impact plasma levels
No interactions with hepatic metabolism with certain drugs
Diclofenac and warfarin may increase elimination rate

Contraindications

Hypersensitivity to the drug
History of orthostatic hypotension
Severe hepatic insufficiency
