Indications

  • Treatment of functional symptoms of Benign Prostatic Hyperplasia (BPH)

Pharmacology

  • Selective alpha1 adrenoceptor blocking agent
  • Improvement in urine flow rate
  • Reduction in symptoms of BPH
  • Absorption rate and pharmacokinetics

Dosage & Administration

  • Tamsulosin Hydrochloride 0.4 mg daily
  • Increased dosage after 2-4 weeks if necessary
  • Administration after meal at night
  • Swallowing whole with a glass of water
  • Modified release of active ingredient

Interaction

  • Concurrent administration with other alfa1-adrenoceptor antagonists
  • No interactions with atenolol, enalapril, or nifedipine
  • Cimetidine and frusemide interactions
  • In vitro studies on hepatic metabolism
  • Diclofenac and warfarin interactions

Contraindications

  • Hypersensitivity to Tamsulosin hydrochloride
  • History of orthostatic hypotension
  • Severe hepatic insufficiency
