Indications
- Vaginal treatment of female urogenital trichomonas infection
- Prevention & local therapy of candidiasis
Pharmacology
- Metronidazole interacts with DNA to cause destruction of helical DNA structure
- Miconazole inhibits ergosterol synthesis damaging fungal cell wall membrane
Dosage & Administration
- Concurrently with oral metronidazole treatment
- 1 vaginal tablet inserted high up into the vagina once a day for 10 days
- Moistening the vaginal tablet before application
Interaction
- Disulfiram-like reaction with alcohol for Metronidazole
- Increased risk of bleeding with Miconazole

- Hypersensitivity

Pregnancy & Lactation
- Animal reproduction studies have failed to demonstrate a risk to the fetus
- Animal studies have shown an adverse effect, but adequate and well-controlled studies in pregnant women have failed to demonstrate a risk to the fetus in any trimester
- Potential benefits may warrant use of the drug in pregnant women despite potential risks
