Indications
- Topical treatment of superficial infections of the external eye
- Treatment of conjunctivitis, keratitis, blepharitis
Pharmacology
- Neomycin inhibits protein synthesis
- Polymyxin B increases bacterial cell membrane permeability
- Gramicidin increases bacterial cell membrane permeability to inorganic cations
Dosage & Administration
- Instill one or two drops into the affected eye every 4 hours for 7 to 10 days
Contraindications
- Hypersensitivity to any of its components
Side Effects
- Allergic reactions including itching, swelling, and conjunctival erythema
- Rare hypersensitivity reactions including anaphylaxis
- Local irritation on instillation
Pregnancy & Lactation
- Pregnancy Category C
- Caution advised during administration to pregnant and nursing women
Precautions & Warnings
- Prolonged use may result in overgrowth of nonsusceptible organisms
- Bacterial resistance may develop
- Reports of bacterial keratitis associated with use of topical ophthalmic products
- Allergic cross-reactions may occur
