Pharmacology

Active Ingredient: Dexamethasone
Cortisone Derivative: 1
High Anti-inflammatory Activity: 1

Local Application Concentration: 0.1%
Therapeutic Concentrations: 15-30 minutes after application
Duration of Concentrations: 4-6 hours
Mechanism of Action: Inhibition of phospholipase A2
Inhibition of prostaglandin synthesis: 1
Inhibition of neutrophil infiltration: 1

Dosage & Administration

Ophthalmic Solution Dosage: 1 drop into the conjunctival sac 3-5 times per day
Acute Cases Dosage: Up to 1 drop every hour
Ophthalmic Ointment Dosage: Apply a small amount into the conjunctival sac 3-4 times per day
Ophthalmic Ointment Application: Close eyes without blinking for 1 to 2 minutes

Interaction

Specific drug interaction studies have not been conducted with Dexamin.

Contraindications

Injuries and ulcerating processes of the cornea
Purulent infections of the conjunctiva
Tuberculosis
Mycosis
Glaucoma

Side Effects

Reversible rise in intraocular pressure

Pregnancy & Lactation

Potential benefit justifies potential risk to the fetus

Precautions & Warnings

Potential to mask, activate, or aggravate eye infections
Avoid touching dropper tip to any surface

Overdose Effects

Overdose through local or accidental oral administration is not likely
