Pharmacology
- Dexamethasone is a cortisone derivative
- High activity due to the presence of methyl group
- High activity due to a fluorine atom
- Anti-inflammatory activity
- Overall therapeutic effectiveness
- Anti-allergic
- Anti-exudative
- Anti-proliferative
- Therapeutic concentrations in cornea
- Therapeutic concentrations in aqueous humor
- Inhibition of phospholipase A2
- Inhibition of prostaglandin synthesis
- Inhibition of chemotactic infiltration of neutrophils
Dosage & Administration
- Instill 1 drop into the conjunctival sac 3-5 times per day for ophthalmic solution
- Acute cases: up to 1 drop every hour if necessary for ophthalmic solution
- Apply a small amount into the conjunctival sac 3-4 times per day for ophthalmic ointment
- Close eyes without blinking
- Keep eyes closed for 1 to 2 minutes
- Minimize the dose when desired improvement is observed
Interaction
- Specific drug interaction studies have not been conducted with D-One
Contraindications
- Injuries and ulcerating processes of the cornea
- Purulent infections of the conjunctiva and eyelids
- Tuberculosis
- Mycosis
- Glaucoma
Side Effects
- Reversible rise in intraocular pressure in predisposed patients
Pregnancy & Lactation
- Adverse effect on the fetus in animal experiments
- No control human studies available
- Use during pregnancy only if the potential benefit justifies the potential risk
Precautions & Warnings
- Corticosteroids may mask, activate or aggravate an infection of the eye
- No improvement after a few days application may require a different form of treatment
- Do not touch dropper tip to any surface
Overdose Effects
- Overdose through local or accidental oral administration is not likely
Storage Conditions
- Store at room temperature
- Protect from light
- Contents should not be used more than one month after first opening of the bottle
