Indications
- Treatment of allergic non-infectious blepharitis and conjunctivitis
- Treatment of non-infectious keratitis, punctate keratitis, disciform keratitis
- Treatment of inflammation of anterior uvea (iritis, iridocyclitis)
- Treatment of scleritis, episcleritis, and myositis
- Post-operative management of cataract, strabismus & other ocular surgeries
Pharmacology
- Dexamethasone is a cortisone derivative
- Anti-inflammatory activity is 30 times greater than hydrocortisone
- Therapeutic concentrations found in cornea and aqueous humor
- Inhibits phospholipase A2
- Inhibits chemotactic infiltration of neutrophils
Dosage & Administration
- Instill 1 drop into the conjunctival sac 3-5 times per day
- Apply a small amount of ointment into the conjunctival sac 3-4 times per day
Interaction
- Specific drug interaction studies not conducted
Contraindications
- Injuries and ulcerating processes of the cornea
- Bacterial or viral origin ulcers (herpes simplex, vaccinia)
- Purulent infections of the conjunctiva and eyelids
- Tuberculosis, mycosis, glaucoma
Side Effects
- Reversible rise in intraocular pressure
Pregnancy & Lactation
- Use during pregnancy only if potential benefit justifies potential risk to the fetus
Precautions & Warnings
- Corticosteroids may mask, activate, or aggravate an eye infection
- Do not touch dropper tip to any surface
Overdose Effects
- Overdose through local or accidental oral administration not likely

- Store at room temperature
- Protect from light
- Contents should not be used more than one month after opening
