Indications

  • Control of severe or incapacitating allergic conditions
  • Control of collagen diseases like lupus erythematosus, rheumatoid arthritis
  • Treatment of dermatologic diseases like pemphigus and severe erythema multiforme
  • Management of endocrine disorders such as primary or secondary adrenocortical insufficiency
  • Control of gastrointestinal diseases like regional enteritis and ulcerative colitis
  • Treatment of hematologic disorders like acquired hemolytic anemia and idiopathic thrombocytopenic purpura
  • Management of neoplastic diseases like leukemias and lymphomas
  • Treatment of nervous system conditions including acute exacerbations of multiple sclerosis
  • Control of ophthalmic diseases like temporal arteritis and uveitis
  • Inducing diuresis or remission of proteinuria in renal diseases
  • Management of respiratory diseases like pulmonary tuberculosis and sarcoidosis
  • Adjunctive therapy for short-term administration in acute gouty arthritis
  • For systemic lupus erythematosus and other rheumatic disorders
  • Used for diagnostic testing of adrenocortical hyperfunction
  • Treatment of tuberculous meningitis with subarachnoid block
  • Pharmacology: Synthetic glucocorticoid

  • Dosage & Administration: Daily oral dosages vary from 1 mg to 10 mg for adults
