Pharmacology

  • Dexamethasone as anti-inflammatory and anti-allergic action
  • Chloramphenicol as broad spectrum bacteriostatic antibiotic
  • Rapid absorption of Dexamethasone after oral administration
  • Inhibition of bacterial protein synthesis by Chloramphenicol

Interaction

  • Increased effect with anticoagulants
  • Inhibition of Chloramphenicol by Phenobarbital
  • Reduced efficacy with phenytoin, phenobarbitone, ephedrine, and rifampicin

Contraindications

  • Contraindicated in epithelial herpes simplex cornealis
  • Contraindicated in fungal, viral, and tuberculous eye infections
  • Contraindicated in glaucoma
  • Contraindicated in myelosuppression during previous exposure to Chloramphenicol
  • Contraindicated in hypersensitivity to Chloramphenicol & Dexamethasone Phosphate

  • Overgrowth of non-susceptible organisms with prolonged antibiotic use
