Indications

  • Treatment of steroid responsive inflammatory ocular conditions
  • Treatment of ear infections accompanied by inflammation
  • Post-operative inflammation treatment
  • Treatment of ocular inflammation associated with infection
  • Treatment of otitis externa
  • Treatment of acute and chronic otitis media

Pharmacology

  • Dexamethasone has anti-inflammatory and anti-allergic action
  • Ciprofloxacin has in vitro activity against a wide range of gram-negative and gram-positive organisms

Dosage & Administration

  • 1 drop instilled into conjunctival sac(s) every four to six hours
  • Increased dosage during initial 24 to 48 hours
  • 4 drops instilled into the affected ear 2 times daily for 7 days (acute otitis media)
  • 4 drops instilled into the affected ear 2 times daily for 7 days (acute otitis externa)
  • Pediatric use safety and effectiveness not established for patients below 1 year

Interaction

  • Specific drug interaction studies not conducted with ophthalmic Ciprofloxacin and Dexamethasone

Contraindications

  • Hypersensitivity to any ingredient
  • Herpes simplex and other viral conditions
  • Mycosis
  • Glaucoma
  • Newborn babies
  • Fungal diseases of ocular or auricular structures

Pregnancy & Lactation

  • No adequate and well-controlled studies in pregnant women
  • Use during pregnancy if potential benefit justifies potential risk to the fetus
  • Caution when used by nursing mothers

Precautions & Warnings

  • Possibility of fungal infections of the cornea after long-term steroid dosing
  • Prolonged use of antibiotic may result in overgrowth of non-susceptible organisms
  • Prolonged use of topical ophthalmic steroids may result in glaucoma
  • Defects in visual acuity and fields of vision
  • Posterior subcapsular cataract formation
  • Routine monitoring of intraocular pressure

Storage Conditions

  • Store in a cool and dry place, away from light
  • Keep out of reach of children
  • Shake well before each use
  • Use within 30 days after first opening
  • Close the bottle tightly immediately after use
