Indications

steroid responsive inflammatory ocular conditions
chronic anterior uveitis
corneal injury
combination with anti-infective component

Pharmacology

bactericidal activity
inhibition of protein synthesis
inhibition of phospholipase A2
anti-inflammatory activity

Dosage & Administration

1 drop into the conjunctival sac 3-5 times per day
1 drop every 2 hours for initial 24-48 hours
apply eye ointment 3-4 times per day

Interaction

no specific interaction studies performed
interval of 10 minutes between successive applications

Contraindications

epithelial herpes simplex keratitis
vaccinia and varicella
mycobacterial infection of the eye
hypersensitivity to any component

hypersensitivity
localized ocular toxicity
elevation of intraocular pressure
posterior subcapsular cataract formation

Pregnancy & Lactation

no adequate and well-controlled studies in pregnant women
caution during nursing

Precautions & Warnings

possibility of fungal infections of the cornea
cross-sensitivity to other aminoglycoside antibiotics
overgrowth of non-susceptible organisms

Overdose Effects

overdose through local administration not known
specific measures to reduce resorption in case of accidental oral intake
