Indications

  • Treatment of steroid responsive inflammation of the palpebral and bulbar conjunctiva
  • Treatment of cornea and anterior segment inflammation

Pharmacology

  • Corticosteroid with anti-inflammatory action
  • Induction of phospholipase A2 inhibitory proteins
  • Control of biosynthesis of inflammatory mediators

Dosage & Administration

  • Shake bottle before use
  • 1 to 2 drops instilled two to four times daily
  • Dosage may be increased during initial 24 to 48 hours
  • Caution in children under 2 years of age

Interaction

  • Specific drug interaction studies not conducted

Contraindications

  • Patients with acute superficial Herpes simplex keratitis
  • Patients with fungal diseases of ocular structures
  • Patients with viral diseases of the cornea and conjunctiva
  • Patients with tuberculosis of the eye
  • Patients with hypersensitivity to the medication

  • Elevation of intraocular pressure
  • Visual disturbances
  • Eye irritation
  • Blurred vision
  • Posterior subcapsular cataract formation
  • Ocular infections
  • Hypersensitivity
  • Delayed wound healing

Pregnancy & Lactation

  • Pregnancy Category B3
  • Use during pregnancy only if benefits justify potential risks
  • Unknown systemic absorption in breast milk
  • Consideration for discontinuing nursing or the drug

Precautions & Warnings

  • Caution in patients with history of Herpes simplex keratitis
  • Limit use to 10 days under supervision
  • Possible masking or aggravation of eye infections
  • Consider alternative treatment if no improvement seen after a few days
