Indications
- Treatment of steroid responsive inflammation of the palpebral and bulbar conjunctiva
- Treatment of inflammation of the cornea and anterior segment of the globe
Pharmacology
- Corticosteroid with excellent anti-inflammatory action
- Induction of phospholipase A2 inhibitory proteins
- Control of biosynthesis of inflammatory mediators
- Lower propensity to increase intraocular pressure than Dexamethasone
Dosage & Administration
- Shake bottle before use
- Instill 1 to 2 drops into the conjunctival sac two to four times daily
- Dosage may be increased to 2 drops every hour in the initial 24 to 48 hours
- Caution in use for children under 2 years of age
Interaction
- Specific drug interaction studies not conducted
Contraindications
- Acute superficial Herpes simplex keratitis
- Fungal diseases of ocular structures
- Vaccinia, varicella, mycobacterial infection of the eye
- Hypersensitivity to constituents

- Elevation of intraocular pressure with possible development of glaucoma
- Loss of visual acuity or defects in fields of vision
- Eye irritation
- Ocular hyperaemia
- Eye pain
- Visual disturbance
- Foreign body sensation
- Eyelid edema
- Blurred vision
- Eye discharge
- Eye pruritus
- Eye swelling
- Posterior subcapsular cataract formation
- Ulcerative keratitis
- Ocular infection (bacterial fungal and viral)
- Punctate keratitis
- Hypersensitivity
- Rash
- Delayed wound healing
Pregnancy & Lactation
- Pregnancy Category B3
- Consideration of potential risk to fetus
- Unknown systemic absorption effects in breast milk
- Decision on nursing based on seriousness of adverse reactions
Precautions & Warnings
- Caution in the treatment of patients with a history of Herpes simplex keratitis
- Limit corticosteroid use to 10 days except under strict supervision
- Regular checks for intraocular pressure
- Possible masking, activation or aggravation of eye infection
- Consider alternative treatment if no improvement in a few days
