Indications
- Treatment of steroid responsive inflammation of the palpebral and bulbar conjunctiva
- Treatment of steroid responsive inflammation of the cornea
- Treatment of steroid responsive inflammation of the anterior segment of the globe
Pharmacology
- Corticosteroid with excellent anti-inflammatory action
- Induction of phospholipase A2 inhibitory proteins
- Control of biosynthesis of potent mediators of inflammation
Dosage & Administration
- Shake bottle before use
- Instill 1 to 2 drops into the conjunctival sac two to four times daily
- Dosage may be increased during the initial 24 to 48 hours
- Safety and effectiveness not demonstrated in children under 2 years of age
Interaction
- Specific drug interaction studies not conducted
Contraindications
- Acute superficial Herpes simplex keratitis
- Fungal diseases of ocular structures
- Vaccinia, varicella, mycobacterial infection of the eye, and most other viral diseases of the cornea and conjunctiva
- Tuberculosis of the eye
- Hypersensitivity to the constituents of this medication
Side Effects
- Elevation of intraocular pressure with possible development of glaucoma
- Loss of visual acuity or defects in fields of vision
- Eye irritation, hyperaemia, pain, visual disturbance
- Foreign body sensation, eyelid edema, blurred vision, discharge, pruritus, swelling
- Posterior subcapsular cataract formation, ulcerative keratitis, ocular infection
- Punctate keratitis, hypersensitivity, rash, delayed wound healing
Pregnancy & Lactation
- Pregnancy Category B3
- Use during pregnancy only if potential benefit justifies potential risk to the fetus
- Not known whether ophthalmic use of corticosteroids could result in sufficient systemic absorption to produce detectable quantities in breast milk
- Potential for serious adverse reactions in nursing infants
Precautions & Warnings
- Caution in patients with history of Herpes simplex keratitis
- Not to be used for more than 10 days without supervision and regular checks for intraocular pressure
- May mask, activate or aggravate an infection of the eye
- Consider other forms of treatment if no improvement is seen after a few days of application

Storage Conditions
- Store in a dry place and away from light
- Keep out of reach of children
- Prevent contamination of the dropper tip and suspension
- Do not touch the eyelids, surrounding areas, finger or other surfaces with the dropper tip
- Tightly close the bottle when not in use
- Do not use after 4 weeks of first opening
