Indications

  • Treatment of steroid responsive inflammation of the palpebral and bulbar conjunctiva
  • Treatment of steroid responsive inflammation of the cornea
  • Treatment of steroid responsive inflammation of the anterior segment of the globe

Pharmacology

  • Fluorometholone Acetate is a corticosteroid
  • Acts as an anti-inflammatory agent
  • Inhibits the release of arachidonic acid
  • Lower propensity to increase intraocular pressure

Dosage & Administration

  • Bottle should be shaken before use
  • 1-2 drops instilled into the conjunctival sac 2-4 times daily
  • Dosage may be increased to 2 drops every hour during the initial 24-48 hours
  • Safety and effectiveness not demonstrated in children under 2 years of age

Interaction

  • Specific drug interaction studies not conducted

Contraindications

  • Patients with acute superficial Herpes simplex keratitis
  • Patients with fungal diseases of ocular structures
  • Patients with vaccinia or varicella

  • Loss of visual acuity or defects in fields of vision

Pregnancy & Lactation

  • Pregnancy Category B3
  • Should be used during pregnancy only if potential benefit justifies potential risk to the fetus
  • Unknown systemic absorption in breast milk
  • Cautious decision required for nursing mothers

Precautions & Warnings

  • Caution required in patients with a history of Herpes simplex keratitis
  • Use for not more than 10 days except under strict supervision
  • Regular checks for intraocular pressure required
  • Corticosteroids may mask, activate or aggravate an infection of the eye

Storage Conditions

  • Store in a dry place away from light
  • Keep out of reach of children
  • Prevent contamination of the dropper tip and suspension
  • Do not use after 4 weeks of first opening
