Indications
- Acute and chronic allergic non-infectious conjunctivitis and keratitis with severe swelling and intravascular injection
- Non-infectious inflammation of the anterior segment of the eye
- Post-operative irritative conditions after strabismus
- Cataract surgery with supplementary antimicrobial therapy
Pharmacology
- Fluorometholone induces phospholipase A2 inhibitory proteins
- Tetrahydrozoline is an alpha agonist
- Constricts conjunctival blood vessels
Dosage & Administration
- 1 drop into the conjunctival sac 2-3 times daily for adults
- Increased dose for severe cases to 1 drop hourly for first one to two days
Interaction
- Possible interaction with antidepressant drugs inhibiting MAO Enzyme
Contraindications
- Infectious conjunctivitis or keratitis
- Glaucoma
- Dry eyes
Side Effects
- Mild burning sensation
- Reversible increase in intraocular pressure
- Reactive hyperemia
- Cataract & corneal defects
- Glaucoma
- Systemic effects (chronic use)
Pregnancy & Lactation
- Use during pregnancy only if potential benefits justify the potential risk to the fetus
Precautions & Warnings
- Avoid prolonged use
- Risk benefit evaluation in severe blood circulation diseases
- Metabolic disturbances
- Under treatment with MAOIs
- History of cataract
- Herpes simplex infection
- Rhinitis sicca
Overdose Effects
- No likelihood of overdose when used as directed
- Possible symptoms of intoxication
- Administration of activated charcoal
- Gastric lavage
- Artificial ventilation with oxygen
- Use of phentolamine to lower blood pressure
- Antipyretic and anticonvulsive therapy
