Indications

• Treatment of bacterial ear infections
• Not effective for other types of ear infections
• Risk of decreased antibiotic effectiveness with unnecessary or overuse

Pharmacology

• Polymyxin B and Neomycin kill germs causing ear infections
• Active against specific microorganisms
• Hydrocortisone reduces swelling and irritation caused by infection
• May inhibit body's defense mechanism against infection

Dosage

• Adult dosage: 3 drops into affected ear up to four times a day for up to 7 days
• Completion of prescribed course recommended

Administration

• Gentle shaking before each use
• Clean and dry ears before application
• Avoid soap to prevent interference with medicine
• Avoid contact with eyes

Interaction

• Additive toxicity with certain drug types
• Potential neuromuscular blockade and respiratory depression with significant neomycin absorption

Contraindications

• Allergy to specific ingredients or aminoglycoside antibiotics
• Perforated ear drum
• Viral, fungal, or tubercular infection
• Age restriction under 3 years old
