Indications

Pharmacology

  • Inhibition of inflammatory response
  • Delay or slow healing
  • Inhibition of edema
  • Inhibition of leukocyte migration
  • Inhibition of scar formation
  • Induction of phospholipase A2 inhibitory proteins

Dosage & Administration

  • Instill 1 drop into the conjunctival sac
  • 4 times a day for steroid responsive ocular inflammation
  • 2 times a day for inflammation after surgery
  • Apply small amount 4 times daily for ointment
  • Instill one to two drops 4 times daily for gel
  • Not established for pediatric patients
  • No overall differences in safety and effectiveness for geriatric use

Interaction

  • No expected effect on the pharmacokinetics of systemically administered medicinal products

Contraindications

  • Contraindicated in most viral diseases of the cornea and conjunctiva
  • Contraindicated in mycobacterial infection of the eye
  • Contraindicated in fungal diseases of ocular structures
  • Contraindicated in individuals with known or suspected hypersensitivity

Precautions & Warnings

  • Re-evaluate if no improvement after two days
  • Monitor intraocular pressure for use of 10 days or longer
  • Consider fungus invasion in persistent corneal ulceration
  • Advise to consult a physician if aggravated symptoms
  • Not to wear contact lenses during therapy
