Indications
- Treatment of viral infections due to Herpes simplex virus (type I & II) and Varicella zoster virus
- Treatment of Herpes simplex virus infections of the skin and mucous membranes
- The prophylaxis of Herpes simplex infections in immunocompromised patients
Pharmacology
- Synthetic purine derivative
- Interferes with DNA synthesis
- Inhibits viral replication
- Converted to Aciclovir Triphosphate intracellularly
- 15-30% oral absorption
- Peak plasma concentrations within 1.5-2 hours
- Widely distributed in body tissues and fluids
- Excreted through the kidney

Interaction
- Probenecid reduces Aciclovir excretion
