Indications

  • Treatment of postoperative inflammation
  • Reduction of ocular pain
  • Patients who have undergone cataract extraction

Pharmacology

  • Preparation of Bromfenac ophthalmic solution
  • Nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID)
  • Mechanism of action: inhibits cyclooxygenase 1 and 2
  • Blocks prostaglandin synthesis

Dosage & Administration

  • One drop of ophthalmic solution
  • Applied to the affected eye(s) once daily
  • Begin 1 day prior to cataract surgery
  • Continued on the day of surgery
  • Through the first 14 days of the postoperative period

Contraindications

  • Known hypersensitivity to any ingredients of the formulation

Side Effects

  • Abnormal sensation in eye
  • Conjunctival hyperemia
  • Eye irritation (including burning/stinging)
  • Eye pain
  • Eye pruritus
  • Eye redness
  • Headache
  • Iritis

Pregnancy & Lactation

  • Pregnancy Category C
  • Use during pregnancy if potential benefit justifies the potential risk to the fetus
  • Caution when administered to a nursing woman

Precautions & Warnings

  • Topical NSAIDs and topical steroids may slow or delay healing
  • Recommended to be used with caution in patients with known bleeding tendencies
  • Caution in patients receiving other medications which may prolong bleeding time

Storage Conditions

  • Store in a cool (below 30°C), dry place and away from light
  • Keep out of reach of children
  • Prevent contamination of the dropper tip and solution
  • Do not use after 4 weeks of first opening
