Indications

Treatment of postoperative inflammation
Reduction of ocular pain
Patients who have undergone cataract extraction

Pharmacology

Preparation of Bromfenac ophthalmic solution
Nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID)
Anti-inflammatory activity
Inhibition of cyclooxygenase 1 and 2
Prostaglandin synthesis
Mediators of intraocular inflammation
Effects on blood-aqueous humor barrier
Vasodilatation
Increased intraocular pressure

Dosage & Administration

One drop applied to affected eye(s) once daily
Begins 1 day prior to cataract surgery
Continued on the day of surgery
Continued through the first 14 days of the postoperative period

Contraindications

Known hypersensitivity to any ingredients of the formulation

Abnormal sensation in eye
Conjunctival hyperemia
Eye irritation
Burning/stinging
Eye pain
Eye pruritus
Eye redness
Headache
Iritis

Pregnancy & Lactation

Pregnancy Category C
No adequate and well-controlled studies in pregnant women
Use during pregnancy if potential benefit justifies potential risk to the fetus
Caution when administered to a nursing woman

Precautions & Warnings

Topical NSAIDs may slow or delay healing
Topical corticosteroids may slow or delay healing
Concomitant use of topical NSAIDs and steroids may increase potential for healing problems
Caution in patients with known bleeding tendencies
Patients receiving medications prolonging bleeding time

Storage Conditions

Store in a cool (below 30°C), dry place away from light
Keep out of reach of children
Prevent contamination of the dropper tip and solution
Do not touch eyelids or surrounding areas with dropper tip
Keep bottle tightly closed when not in use
Do not use after 4 weeks of first opening
