Indications

  • treatment of signs & symptoms of allergic conjunctivitis
  • indications for vernal kerato-conjunctivitis
  • indications for blepharitis
  • indications for giant papillary conjunctivitis

Pharmacology

  • potent anti-allergic substance
  • non-competitive histamine (H1) receptor blocking property
  • inhibition of release of mediators from cells
  • stabilization of mast cells
  • decrease in chemotaxis and degranulation of eosinophils

Dosage & Administration

  • 1 drop in the affected eye(s) twice daily
  • dosage for adults and children 3 years and older
  • dosage for children under 3 years of age

Interaction

  • interval of at least 5 minutes between other eye medications

Contraindications

  • hypersensitivity to Ketotifen or any of the components

Side Effects

  • burning
  • stinging
  • punctate corneal epithelial erosion
  • blurring of vision
  • dry eyes
  • eyelid disorder
  • conjunctivitis
  • eye pain
  • photophobia
  • subconjunctival haemorrhage

Pregnancy & Lactation

  • caution in pregnant women
  • low systemic levels after ocular administration
  • unlikely excretion into breast milk
  • use during lactation

Precautions & Warnings

  • containment of benzalkonium chloride as a preservative
  • deposition in soft contact lenses
  • lenses removal before application
  • waiting period before reinsertion

Overdose Effects

  • no reported overdose case
  • clinical results after oral ingestion
  • equivalent oral ingestion of a 5 ml bottle
  • clinical results after ingestion of up to 20 mg of Ketof

Storage Conditions

  • store in cool and dry place
  • protected from light and moisture
  • do not touch dropper tip to any surface
