Indications
- Treatment of allergic conjunctivitis
- Relief of itchy, watery, red & swollen eyes
- Management of vernal kerato-conjunctivitis
Pharmacology
- Potent anti-allergic substance
- Non-competitive histamine (H1) receptor blocking property
- Inhibition of release of allergic mediators
Dosage & Administration
- Adult dose: 1 drop in affected eye(s) twice daily
- Children 3 years and older: Same as adult dose
- Children under 3 years: Consultation with a doctor required
Interaction
- Minimum 5 minutes interval required if used concomitantly with other eye medications
Contraindications
- Hypersensitivity to Ketotifen or any of the components
Side Effects
- Burning and stinging sensation
- Blurring of vision
- Dry eyes
- Eyelid and conjunctivitis disorders
Pregnancy & Lactation
- Limited data in pregnant women
- Caution during pregnancy
- Low systemic levels after ocular administration
- Use during lactation with caution
Precautions & Warnings
- Contains benzalkonium chloride as a preservative
- Avoid instillation while wearing soft contact lenses
- Contact lenses removal required before application
Overdose Effects
- No reported overdose cases
- Oral ingestion equivalent to 60% of recommended daily dose for a 3-year-old child
- No serious symptoms reported after ingestion of up to 20 mg
