Indications

  • Dyspeptic symptom complex
  • Delayed gastric emptying
  • Gastroesophageal reflux
  • Esophagitis
  • Acute nausea and vomiting
  • Parkinson's disease
  • Radiological studies

Pharmacology

  • Dopamine antagonist
  • ChemoreceptorTrigger Zone (CTZ) blocking
  • Gastroprokinetic action
  • Weak penetration of blood-brain barrier
  • Restores normal motility and tone of upper gastrointestinal tract

Dosage & Administration

  • Should be taken 15-30 minutes before meals
  • Usual recommended oral dose for adults and children

Interaction

  • Anticholinergic drugs antagonism
  • Lowered oral bioavailability with antacids and antisecretory drugs
  • Inhibition of CYP3A4 enzyme
  • Potential influence on absorption of orally administered drugs

Contraindications

  • Known hypersensitivity
  • Neonates
  • Gastrointestinal hemorrhage
  • Mechanical obstruction or perforation
  • Prolactin releasing pituitary tumor

Side Effects
