Description
- A medication primarily used to treat dyspeptic symptom complex, acute nausea and vomiting, Parkinson's disease-induced nausea and vomiting, and to speed barium transit in follow-through radiological studies

Pharmacology
- Dopamine antagonist
- Blocks dopamine receptors in the Chemoreceptor Trigger Zone (CTZ) and stomach
- Gastroprokinetic action
- Restores normal motility and tone of the upper gastrointestinal tract
- Facilitates gastric emptying
- Enhances antral and duodenal peristalsis
- Regulates contraction of the pylorus
- Increases esophageal peristalsis
- Enhances lower esophageal sphincter pressure
DosageAndAdministration
- Should be taken 15-30 minutes before meals
- Usual recommended oral dose for adults is 10-20 mg every 6-8 hours daily, with maximum daily dose not exceeding 80 mg
- Rectal suppository administration, with doses varying for adults and children
Interactions
- Antagonizes effect of anticholinergic drugs
- Has potential interactions with CYP3A4 inhibitors
