Indications

  • Treatment of signs and symptoms of allergic conjunctivitis
  • Relief of symptoms of seasonal allergic rhinitis
  • Treatment of allergic rhinitis and allergic skin conditions

Pharmacology

  • Olopatadine: antihistamine
  • Blocks action of histamine
  • Reduces allergy symptoms
  • Mast cell stabilizer
  • Antagonist at histamine H1 receptors

Dosage

  • Eye Drops:
    • 0.1% dosage: One drop in each affected eye two times per day
    • 0.2% dosage: One drop in the affected eye once a day
    • 0.7% dosage: One drop in each affected eye once a day
  • Nasal Spray:
    • Adults and Adolescents dosage: Two sprays per nostril twice daily
    • Children 6 to 11 years of age dosage: One spray per nostril twice daily
  • Tablet:
    • Adult dosage: 1 tablet (5 mg) twice daily
    • Children 7 years old or over dosage: 1 tablet (5 mg) twice daily

Contraindications

Contraindicated in persons with known hypersensitivity to any component

Side Effects

  • Rarely headaches reported
  • Other adverse effects include blurred vision, burning or stinging, dry eye, nausea, pruritus, rhinitis

Pregnancy & Lactation

Should be used in pregnant women only if potential benefit justifies potential risk to the fetus

Precautions & Warnings

  • Patients should not wear contact lens if their eye is red
  • Caution for patients wearing soft contact lenses
  • Olonex Tablet should be used as prescribed

Use in Special Populations

No overall differences in safety or effectiveness in geriatric use
