Indications

Description
Mastguard is a type of medicine used to prevent the symptoms of allergies. Mastguard works by acting on mast cells to prevent them from releasing substances that cause the allergic reaction.
Pharmacology
Sodium Cromoglicate inhibits the degranulation of sensitized mast cells which occurs after exposure to specific antigens. It acts by inhibiting the release of histamine and various membrane derived mediators of inflammation from mast cells. Sodium Cromoglicate has no vasoconstrictor or antihistaminic activity.
Dosage & Administration
- For eyes: 1 to 2 drops into each eye 2 to 3 times daily
- For nose: 1 drop to each nostril 2 to 3 times daily
Interaction
No evidence of interaction with other drugs has been observed.
Contraindications
This drop is contraindicated in patient with hypersensitivity to Sodium Cromoglicate.
Side Effects
- Transient stinging and burning
- Other symptoms of local irritation have been reported rarely
Pregnancy & Lactation
Sodium Cromoglicate should be used with caution during pregnancy and only if the expected benefit to the mother is greater than any possible risk to the fetus. There are no known harmful effects when this medicine is used by breastfeeding mothers.
Precautions & Warnings
Patients should not wear contact lenses during treatment due to the benzalkonium chloride.
Overdose Effects
Overdose is unlikely. In the event of accidental ingestion, symptomatic treatment is recommended.

Storage Conditions
Store at room temperature and protect from light. Any remaining contents should be discarded 4 weeks after opening. Do not touch dropper tip to any surface since this may contaminate the solution.
