Description
- Indications:
- Cycloplegic agent for refraction
- Mydriatic agent for desired dilatation of the iris or uveal tract
- Treatment to slow the progression of myopia in children aged 4-14 years
- Composition:
- Atropine 1% Eye Drops:
- Atropine Sulphate BP 10 mg
- Benzalkonium Chloride 0.01% as preservative
- Atropine 0.01% Eye Drops:
- Atropine Sulphate USP 0.1 mg
- Sodium Perborate 0.01% as preservative
- Atropine 1% Eye Drops:
- Pharmacology:
- Suppression of myopia progression
- Action via muscarinic receptors in ocular tissues
- Involvement in ocular growth, development, and accommodation
- Dosage & Administration:
- 1% Eye drops:
- Uveitis - one drop three times daily
- Refraction - one drop in the eyes twice daily before examination
- 0.01% Eye drops:
- Administered as one drop to each eye at night
- Maximum benefit with a 2-year continued administration period
- 1% Eye drops:
- Interaction:
- Potential interactions with Anticholinergics, Antiglaucoma agents, Potassium Citrate, Potassium Supplements, Carbachol, Physostigmine, Pilocarpine, CNS medication
- Contraindications:
- Not to be used in the presence of angle closure glaucoma
- Estimation of the depth of the angle of the anterior chamber before initiation of therapy in glaucoma-susceptible patients
- Side Effects:
- Blurred vision
- Local irritation
- Follicular conjunctivitis
- Vascular congestion
- Photophobia
- Pregnancy & Lactation:
- Systemic absorption possible after ocular administration
- Limited distribution into breast milk
- Adverse effects on nursing infants reported
- Precautions & Warnings:
- Avoid in children with severe systemic reaction to Atropine
- Caution in children with Down's syndrome, spastic paralysis, or brain damage
- Overdose Effects:
- Flushing
- Headache
- Fast heartbeat
- Unusual drowsiness
- Emergency medical attention required

- Store below 30°C in a dry place away from light
