Description

DosageAndAdministration

  • Should be taken 15-30 minutes before meals
  • Usual recommended oral dose for adults: 10-20 mg every 6-8 hours daily
  • Maximum dose for adults: 80 mg daily
  • Pediatric dose based on body weight

Indications

  • Dyspeptic symptom complex
  • Acute nausea and vomiting
  • Parkinson's disease
  • Radiological studies

Interaction

  • Contraindicated with anticholinergic drugs
  • Main metabolic pathway is through CYP3A4
  • Inhibition by azole antifungals, macrolide antibiotics, HIV protease inhibitors, nefazodone
  • Potential effect on absorption of concomitantly orally administered drugs

Contraindications

  • Known hypersensitivity to the drug
  • Neonates
  • Gastrointestinal hemorrhage, mechanical obstruction or perforation
  • Prolactin releasing pituitary tumor (prolactinoma)
