Indications
- Chronic open angle glaucoma
- Acute or chronic narrow angle glaucoma
- Suspected glaucoma
- Ocular hypertension
Pharmacology
- Stimulation of cholinergic receptors
- Contraction of iris sphincter muscle
- Pupillary constriction
- Constriction of ciliary muscle
- Increased accommodation
- Reduction in intraocular pressure
- Increase in outflow of aqueous humor
- Decrease in inflow of aqueous humor
Dosage & Administration
- Instill 1 drop 2-4 times daily
- Pressure applied for one minute on the tear duct after application
Interaction
- Interference with miotic effects of pilocarpine by Belladonna alkaloids or cyclopentolate
- Mydriatic effects dampened by Belladonna alkaloids or cyclopentolate
Contraindications
- Hypersensitivity to any ingredient including excipients
- Conditions where pupillary constriction is undesirable
- Retinal detachment
- Past history of retinal detachment
- Conditions predisposing to retinal detachment

- Temporary blurred vision
- Burning
- Stinging
- Redness
- Watering of the eyes
- Decrease in night vision
- Eye irritation
- Headache
- Eye pain
- Increased sweating
- Muscle tremors
- Nausea
- Vomiting
- Diarrhea
- Watering of the mouth
- Troubled breathing or wheezing
Pregnancy & Lactation
- Safe use during pregnancy not established
- Ophthalmic Pilocarpine systemically absorbed
Precautions & Warnings
- Exercise caution in night driving or hazardous work in poor light if blurred vision or changes in near or far sight occur
- Regular intraocular pressure measurements recommended during therapy
Overdose Effects
- Dilution with water and other fluids as response to accidental or deliberate overdose
