Indications
- Chronic open angle glaucoma
- Acute or chronic narrow angle glaucoma
- Suspected glaucoma
- Ocular hypertension
Pharmacology
- Stimulation of cholinergic receptors
- Contraction of iris sphincter muscle
- Pupillary constriction (miosis)
- Constriction of ciliary muscle
- Increased accommodation
- Reduction in intraocular pressure
- Increase in outflow of aqueous humor
- Decrease in inflow of aqueous humor
- Mechanism of miotics in lowering intraocular pressure
- Constriction of pupil in angle-closure glaucoma
Dosage & Administration
- Instill 1 drop 2-4 times daily
- Application pressure on tear duct for one minute
Interaction
- Interference with belladonna alkaloids or cyclopentolate
- Miotic effects of pilocarpine
- Mydriatic effects dampening
Contraindications
- Hypersensitivity to any ingredient
- Conditions where pupillary constriction is undesirable
- Retinal detachment or predisposition to retinal detachment
