Indications
- Reduction of elevated intraocular pressure (IOP) in patients with glaucoma or ocular hypertension
Pharmacology
- Comprised of Brimonidine Tartrate & Timolol Maleate
- Dual mechanism of action
- Decreases aqueous humor production
- Increases nonpressure dependent uveoscleral outflow
- Lowers IOP by reducing aqueous humor production
- Rapid onset of action
- Peak ocular hypotensive effect seen within two hours of administration
Dosage & Administration
- Instill 1 drop in the affected eye(s) twice daily
Interaction
- Specific drug interaction studies have not been conducted
Contraindications
- Hypersensitivity to any component of the product
- Bronchial asthma
- Severe chronic obstructive pulmonary disease
- Sinus bradycardia
- Second or third-degree atrioventricular block
- Overt cardiac failure
- Cardiogenic shock
Side Effects
- Allergic conjunctivitis
- Conjunctival folliculosis
- Conjunctival hyperaemia
- Eye pruritus
- Ocular burning or stinging
Pregnancy & Lactation
- No adequate and well-controlled studies in pregnant women
- Use during pregnancy only if potential benefit justifies potential risk to the fetus
- Timolol detected in human milk
- Unknown excretion of Brimonidine Tartrate in human milk
- Decision regarding nursing should consider the importance of the drug to the mother
Precautions & Warnings
- May be absorbed systemically
- Similar cardiovascular and pulmonary adverse reactions as systemic beta-blockers
- Exercise caution in treating patients with severe or unstable cardiovascular or pulmonary diseases
Use in Special Populations
- Safety and effectiveness in children below the age of 2 years have not been established
- No overall differences in safety or effectiveness observed between elderly and other adult patients
