Indications
- Treatment of acute bacterial ear infections
Pharmacology
- Contains Chloramphenicol which inhibits bacterial protein synthesis
- Contains Lidocaine which acts as a local anesthetic
Dosage & Administration
- Instill 2-3 drops into the ear bid-tid for Otic/Aural Otitis externa
Interaction
- Decreases effects of iron and vitamin B12 in anaemic patients
- Reduces efficacy of chloramphenicol when taken with phenobarbitone and rifampin
- Impairs the action of oral contraceptives
- Potentially fatal interactions with oral anticoagulants, oral hypoglycemic agents, and phenytoin
- Contraindicated with drugs that depress bone marrow function
Contraindications
- Hypersensitivity or toxic reaction to the drug
- Perforated ear drum
- Herpes simplex and other viral conditions of the eye or ear
- Mycosis
