Pharmacology
- Imidazoline derivative sympathomimetic amine
- Agonist at alpha-adrenoceptors
- No action on beta-adrenoceptors
- Topical agent for nasal mucosa
- Rapid and long-acting vasoconstriction effect
- Reduction of blood flow and mucosal swelling
- Improved airway potency
- Better drainage of nasal sinus
Dosage
- Adult dosage: 2-3 sprays in each nostril twice daily
- Elderly dosage: No need for dosage reduction
- Children below 6 years: Not suitable for use
- Adult & children 6 years: 2-3 drops of 0.05% Nasal Drops in each nostril twice daily
- Children 2-5 years: 2-3 drops of 0.025% Nasal Drops in each nostril twice daily
Administration
- Shake the bottle gently before use
- Insert the nasal applicator into the nostril
- Tilt head forward and keep the spray upright
- Breathe in through the nose while spraying
- Clean nasal spray at least once a week
- Wash the applicator and dust cover in warm water
- Avoid applying additional heat during drying
- Gently push the applicator back on the top of the bottle
Interaction
- Not to be given to patients on MAO inhibitors
- Avoid use within 14 days of ceasing MAO inhibitors
Contraindications
- Patients with cardiovascular disease
- Patients with hyperthyroidism
- Patients with prostatic enlargement
- Patients with angle closure glaucoma
- Patients with hypersensitivity to ingredients
Side Effects
- Local irritation
- Dryness of mouth and throat
- Burning sensation
- Stinging sensation
- Sneezing
- Increase in nasal discharge
Pregnancy & Lactation
- Safety not established during pregnancy
- Safety not established during lactation
- Not thought to constitute a hazard
Precautions & Warnings
- Avoid contact with the eyes
- Do not use for longer than seven days without medical advice
- Frequent or prolonged use may cause rebound congestion

- Local irritation
- Rebound congestion
- Treatment is symptomatic
