Indications

• Treatment of seasonal allergic rhinitis
• Treatment of perennial allergic rhinitis
• Maintenance treatment of asthma in patients aged 5 years and older
• Prophylactic therapy for asthma
• Not indicated for relief of acute bronchospasm

Administration

• Nasal spray administration
• Inhalation capsule administration
• Instructions for using the nasal spray
• Cleaning procedure for the nasal spray
• Priming the nasal spray device
• Device must be primed before first use or if not used for a certain period

Pharmacology

• Synthetic trifluorinated corticosteroid
• Potent anti-inflammatory activity
• Wide range of actions on multiple cell types

Dosage

• Dosage for adults and children over 12 years
• Dosage for children under 12 years
• Dosage for children under 2 years
• Dosage for adults and adolescents aged 12 years and older
• Dosage for pediatric patients aged 5 to 11 years
• Starting dosage based on asthma severity
• Maximum recommended daily dosage for adults and adolescents aged 12 years and older
• Titration to the lowest effective dosage after achieving asthma stability

Interaction

• Potential interaction with CYP3A4 inhibitors
• Coadministration with ritonavir not recommended
• Instruction for priming the nasal spray device

Contraindications

• Contraindicated in patients with hypersensitivity to any of its ingredients

Side Effects

• Less systemic absorption with nasal spray
• Drying of the nose
• Increase in the incidence of nosebleeds
• Common adverse reactions in adult and adolescent subjects
• Common adverse reactions in pediatric subjects aged 5 to 11 years

Pregnancy & Lactation

• Pregnancy category C
• Use during pregnancy if potential benefit justifies potential risk
• Unknown excretion in human breast milk
• Exercise caution when administered to nursing women

Precautions & Warnings

• Rare instances of immediate hypersensitivity reactions
• Rare instances of contact dermatitis
• Reported instances of wheezing
• Reported instances of nasal septum perforation
• Reported instances of cataracts
• Reported instances of glaucoma
• Reported instances of increased intraocular pressure
• Systemic effects increase with larger doses
• Avoid larger than recommended doses

Use in Special Populations

• Dose selection for the elderly should be cautious
• Considerations for decreased hepatic, renal, or cardiac function
• Considerations for concomitant disease or other drug therapy
• Use with caution in patients with severe hepatic impairment
• No dosage adjustment required in patients with renal impairment
