Dosage Recommendations
The recommended dose in adults is 80 mg taken orally once daily. Consider a starting dose of 40 mg for patients who are treated with high doses of diuretics.
Additional Blood Pressure Reduction
- Achievable by taking Azisan with other antihypertensive agents
Drug Interactions
- No interactions observed with amlodipine, antacids, chlorthalidone, digoxin, fluconazole, glyburide, ketoconazole, metformin, pioglitazone, warfarin
- Potential attenuation of antihypertensive effect by non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs including selective COX-2 inhibitors
Contraindications
- Co-administration of Aliskiren with Azilsartan in patients with diabetes

- Risk to the fetus increases if administered during the second or third trimesters of pregnancy
- Unknown excretion in human milk, potential adverse effects on nursing infants
Precautions & Warnings
- Use during the second and third trimesters reduces fetal renal function and increases fetal and neonatal morbidity and death
- Possible symptomatic hypotension in intravascularly volume-depleted patients
- Reported changes in renal function including renal failure in renal-impaired patients
Special Populations
- Pediatric Use: Not established for patients under 18 years of age
- Geriatric Use: No dose adjustment necessary, but abnormally high serum creatinine values more likely in patients aged 75 years or older
- Renal Impairment:
- Dose adjustment not required in patients with mild-to-severe renal impairment or end-stage renal disease
- Moderate to severe renal impairment more likely to report abnormally high serum creatinine values
- Hepatic Impairment: Not studied in patients with severe hepatic impairment

- Supportive therapy should be instituted based on the patient's clinical status
