Canarol 100 mg (Tablet)

Indications

• Adjunct to diet and exercise
• Improves glycemic control
• Type 2 diabetes mellitus

Pharmacology

• Inhibitor of subtype-2 SGLT2
• Reduces glucose reabsorption in the kidney
• Increases glucose excretion in urine

Dosage & Administration

• Recommended starting dose: 100 mg once daily
• Dose can be increased to 300 mg once daily
• No dose adjustment for mild renal impairment
• Special dose for moderate renal impairment

Interaction

• UGT inducers may reduce exposure
• Dose adjustment consideration for UGT inducers
• Interaction with digoxin

Contraindications

• History of serious hypersensitivity reaction
• Severe renal impairment
• End Stage Renal Disease (ESRD)
• Dialysis patients

Side Effects

• Female genital mycotic infections
• Urinary tract infection
• Increased urination
• Low blood pressure
• Hyperkalemia
• Low blood glucose
• Increases LDL-C

Pregnancy & Lactation

• Pregnancy Category C
• No adequate and well-controlled studies in pregnant women
• Use during pregnancy only if potential benefit justifies potential risk
• Discontinue drug or nursing for nursing mothers

Precautions & Warnings

• Not for the treatment of type 1 diabetes mellitus
• Not for diabetic ketoacidosis
