Indications
- Treatment of premature ejaculation in men 18 to 64 years of age
- Persistent ejaculation with minimal sexual stimulation
- Marked personal distress or interpersonal difficulty
- Poor control over ejaculation
Pharmacology
- Inhibition of neuronal reuptake of serotonin
- Potentiation of neurotransmitter's action
- Rapid absorption with maximum plasma concentrations 1-2 hours after intake
- Rapid distribution with steady state volume of distribution 162 L
Dosage & Administration
- Recommended starting dose of 30 mg for adult men
- Maximum recommended dosing frequency once every 24 hours
- Not recommended for use in individuals below 18 years of age
- Caution advised in patients with renal or hepatic impairment
Interaction
- Caution advised when used with CNS active medicinal products
- Prescribed with caution in patients using PDE5 inhibitors or Tamsulosin
- Caution advised when used in patients taking Warfarin
- Contraindicated to be used with alcohol
Contraindications
- Known hypersensitivity to Dapoxetine Hydrochloride
- Significant pathological cardiac conditions
- Concomitant treatment with MAOIs, thioridazine, or serotonergic medicinal products
Side Effects
- Common effects include nausea, dizziness, dry mouth, headache, diarrhea, insomnia
- Low rates of sexual dysfunction compared to other SSRIs
- Very mild adverse effects on loss of libido and ED
Pregnancy & Lactation
- Not indicated for use by women
- Unknown excretion through human breast milk
Precautions & Warnings
- Advised against use with recreational drugs
- Patients should be advised to avoid alcohol while taking Dapoxen
- Possible risk of syncope, orthostatic hypotension, and haemorrhage
- Caution prescribed with concomitant use of PDE5 inhibitors or Tamsulosin
Overdose Effects
- No reported case of overdose
- Symptoms of overdose with SSRIs include serotonin-mediated adverse reactions such as somnolence, gastrointestinal disturbances, tachycardia, tremor, agitation, and dizziness
- No evidence of withdrawal syndrome in subjects with PE
