Indications

  • Treatment of premature ejaculation (PE) in men 18 to 64 years of age
  • Ejaculation with minimal sexual stimulation before, on, or shortly after penetration
  • Marked personal distress or interpersonal difficulty as a consequence of PE
  • Poor control over ejaculation

Pharmacology and Dosage

  • Inhibition of neuronal reuptake of serotonin
  • Maximum plasma concentrations (Cmax) occurring approximately 1-2 hours after tablet intake
  • Rapid distribution with a mean steady state volume of distribution of 162 L
  • Recommended starting dose for all patients is 30 mg
  • Maximum recommended dosing frequency is once every 24 hours

Interaction

  • Concomitant administration with CNS active medicinal products caution advised
  • Prescribed with caution in patients who use PDE5 inhibitors
  • Concomitant administration with Tamsulosin should be prescribed with caution
  • Caution advised when used in patients taking Warfarin chronically
  • Avoid alcohol while taking Dumax

Contraindications

  • Known hypersensitivity to Dapoxetine Hydrochloride
  • Significant pathological cardiac conditions
  • Concomitant treatment with monoamine oxidase inhibitors (MAOIs) or within 14 days of discontinuing treatment with MAOIs
  • Concomitant treatment with serotonin reuptake inhibitors or other medicinal/herbal products with serotonergic effects or within 14 days of discontinuing treatment with these medicinal/herbal products

  • Low rates of sexual dysfunction
  • Mild adverse effects on loss of libido and ED

Pregnancy & Lactation

  • Not indicated for use by women
  • Unknown excretion through human breast milk

Precautions & Warnings

  • Avoid use with recreational drugs
  • Combining alcohol with Dumax may increase alcohol-related neurocognitive effects
  • Patients could experience syncope at any time during their treatment
  • An orthostatic test should be performed before initiating therapy
  • Caution is advised in patients with a history of bleeding or coagulation disorders
  • Dumax should be prescribed with caution in patients who use alpha adrenergic receptor antagonists

Overdose Effects

  • No case of overdose reported
  • Symptoms of overdose with SSRIs include serotonin-mediated adverse reactions such as somnolence, gastrointestinal disturbances, tachycardia, tremor, agitation, and dizziness
  • No evidence of withdrawal syndrome in a clinical trial with 60 mg Dumax
