Indications

  • Treats premature ejaculation in men 18-64 years old
  • Addresses persistent or recurrent ejaculation with minimal sexual stimulation
  • Helps with marked personal distress or interpersonal difficulty
  • Aids in poor control over ejaculation

Pharmacology

  • Inhibition of neuronal reuptake of serotonin
  • Potentiation of neurotransmitter's action
  • Rapid absorption with maximum plasma concentrations occurring approximately 1-2 hours after tablet intake
  • Rapid distribution with a mean steady state volume of distribution of 162 L
  • Metabolized to multiple metabolites primarily through biotransformational pathways

Dosage & Administration

  • Recommended starting dose for adult men is 30 mg
  • Maximum recommended dosing frequency is once every 24 hours
  • Not recommended for use in individuals below 18 years of age
  • Caution advised in patients with mild or moderate renal impairment
  • Contraindicated in patients with moderate and severe hepatic impairment

Interaction

  • Caution advised with concomitant administration of CNS active medicinal products
  • Prescribed with caution in patients who use PDE5 inhibitors
  • Prescribed with caution in patients who use alpha adrenergic receptor antagonists
  • Caution advised when used with Warfarin or Ethanol

Contraindications

  • Known hypersensitivity to Dapoxetine Hydrochloride
  • Significant pathological cardiac conditions
  • Concomitant treatment with monoamine oxidase inhibitors (MAOIs) or serotonin reuptake inhibitors
  • Concomitant treatment with medicinal/herbal products with serotonergic effects

Side Effects

  • Common effects when taking Ejalong include nausea, dizziness, dry mouth, headache, diarrhea, and insomnia
  • Low rates of sexual dysfunction
  • Very mild adverse effects on loss of libido and ED

Pregnancy & Lactation

  • Not indicated for use by women
  • Unknown if excreted through human breast milk

Precautions & Warnings

  • Not to be used in combination with recreational drugs
  • Combining alcohol with Ejalong may increase alcohol-related neurocognitive effects
  • Patients should be made aware that they could experience syncope at any time during their treatment with Ejalong
  • An orthostatic test should be performed before initiating therapy
  • Caution advised in patients taking Ejalong, particularly in concomitant use with medicinal products known to affect platelet function
  • The pharmacokinetics of Ejalong in combination with Tadalafil and Sildenafil were evaluated in a single dose crossover study
  • Ejalong should be prescribed with caution in patients who use alpha adrenergic receptor antagonists

Overdose Effects

  • No case of overdose reported
  • Symptoms of overdose with SSRIs include serotonin-mediated adverse reactions
