Description
- Ejalong is indicated for the treatment of premature ejaculation (PE) in men 18 to 64 years of age
Indications
- Premature ejaculation (PE) treatment in men 18 to 64 years of age
- Persistent or recurrent ejaculation with minimal sexual stimulation
- Marked personal distress or interpersonal difficulty
- Poor control over ejaculation
Pharmacology
- Inhibition of neuronal reuptake of serotonin
- Potentiation of neurotransmitter's action
- Mediated by the sympathetic nervous system
- Rapid absorption with maximum plasma concentrations (Cmax)
- Metabolized to multiple metabolites
- Rapid distribution with a mean steady state volume of distribution of 162 L
- Terminal half life of approximately 19 hours
Dosage and administration
- Recommended starting dose of 30 mg
- Maximum recommended dosing frequency once every 24 hours
- Ability to be taken with or without food
- Not recommended for use in individuals below 18 years of age
- Caution advised in patients with renal impairment
- Contraindicated in patients with moderate and severe hepatic impairment
Interaction
- Caution with concomitant use of CNS active medicinal products
- Prescribed with caution in patients who use PDE5 inhibitors
- Prescribed with caution in patients who use alpha adrenergic receptor antagonists
- Caution advised when used in patients taking Warfarin chronically
- Advice to avoid alcohol while taking Ejalong
Contraindications
- Known hypersensitivity to Dapoxetine Hydrochloride
- Significant pathological cardiac conditions
- Concomitant treatment with monoamine oxidase inhibitors (MAOIs) or within 14 days of discontinuing treatment with MAOIs
- Concomitant treatment with serotonin reuptake inhibitors or other medicinal/herbal products with serotonergic effects or within 14 days of discontinuing treatment with these medicinal/herbal products
Side effects
- Common effects include nausea, dizziness, dry mouth, headache, diarrhea, and insomnia
- Low rates of sexual dysfunction
Pregnancy and lactation
- Not indicated for use by women
- Not known if excreted through human breast milk
Precautions and warnings
- Advice against use in combination with recreational drugs
- Caution advised when combining alcohol with Ejalong
- Possibility of experiencing syncope and orthostatic hypotension
- Caution advised in patients with a history of bleeding or coagulation disorders
- Prescribed with caution with concomitant use of PDE5 inhibitors and alpha adrenergic receptor antagonists
Overdose effects
- No reported cases of overdose
- No withdrawal syndrome observed in clinical trials
