Indications

• Healing of Erosive Esophagitis
• Maintenance of Healed Erosive Esophagitis
• Symptomatic Non-Erosive Gastroesophageal Reflux Disease

Pharmacology

• Proton Pump Inhibitor
• Gastric Acid Suppression
• Dual Delayed Release (DDR) Formulation
• Metabolized in the Liver
• Excreated by Urine

Dosage

• 30 mg Once daily for Maintenance of Healed erosive esophagitis and relief of heartburn
• 30 mg Once daily for Symptomatic Non-Erosive GERD
• 60 mg Once daily for Healing of erosive esophagitis
• 30 mg tablet once daily for Maintenance of healed erosive esophagitis and relief of heartburn (MUPS)

Administration

• Can be taken without regard to food
• Swallowed whole
• Alternative administration method: opening the capsule and sprinkling intact granules on a tablespoon

Interaction

• Atazanavir
• Warfarin
• Tacrolimus
• Clopidogrel
• Methotrexate

Contraindications

• Known hypersensitivity to any component of the formulation

Side Effects

• Diarrhea
• Abdominal pain
• Nausea
• Vomiting
• Flatulence

Pregnancy & Lactation

• Pregnancy Category B
• No adequate and well-controlled studies with Dexlansoprazole in pregnant or lactating women

Precautions & Warnings

• Gastric Malignancy
• Clostridium difficile Associated Diarrhea
• Bone fracture
• Hypomagnesemia
• Concomitant use with Methotrexate

Use in Special Populations

• Safety and effectiveness not established in patients below 12 years old
• No dose adjustment for elderly patients
• No dose adjustment for renal impairment
• Consider maximum daily dose of 30 mg for moderate hepatic impairment

Overdose Effects

• No reports of significant overdose
• No death or severe adverse events from multiple doses of 120 mg and a single dose of 300 mg
