Indications

  • Bronchial asthma
  • Bronchospasm
  • Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD)
  • Pulmonary disease with spastic bronchial component

Pharmacology

  • Novel bronchodilator
  • Selective phosphodiesterase 4 inhibitor
  • Relaxes bronchial smooth muscle
  • Inhibits platelet activating factor (PAF)
  • Inhibits leukotriene production

Dosage & Administration

  • Elderly dosage: 200 mg tablet two or three times daily
  • Adults dosage: 400 mg tablet two or three times daily
  • Children dosage: Varies based on age and body weight
  • Special release tablet at 400 mg once daily if required

Interaction

  • Avoid concomitant use with other xanthine preparations
  • Limit consumption of caffeine-containing beverages and food
  • Exercise caution with sympathetic drugs
  • Potential interactions with various drugs like erythromycin, cimetidine, etc.

  • Hypersensitivity to the drug or xanthine derivatives
  • Acute myocardial infarction
  • Hypotension
