Indications
- Essential hypertension

Pharmacology
- Amlodipine and Atenolol fixed-dose combination
- Dihydropyridine calcium antagonist
- Peripheral vasodilator
- Cardioselective beta-blocker
- Reduction in peripheral vascular resistance
- Reduction in blood pressure
- Decrease in coronary vasoreactivity
- Reduction in cardiac demand
- Reduction in myocardial oxygen demand
Dosage & Administration
- Recommended dosage: Amlodipine and Atenolol 5/25 mg tablet once daily
- Possible dosage increase to 5/25 mg two tablets daily
- Dosage individualization
Interaction
- Disopyramide: Atenolol reduces clearance by 20%
- Additive negative inotropic effects on the heart may be produced
- Ampicillin: Reduction in Atenolol levels at doses of 1 gm and above
- Oral antidiabetics and insulin: Beta-blockers may decrease tissue sensitivity to insulin
- Inhibition of insulin secretion e.g. in response to oral antidiabetics
Contraindications
- Hypersensitivity to either component
- Sinus bradycardia
- Second and higher degrees of heart block
- Cardiogenic shock
- Hypotension
- Congestive heart failure
- Poor left ventricular function

Pregnancy & Lactation
- Use during pregnancy only if expected benefit outweighs potential fetal risk
- Not to be used by nursing mothers
- Consider stopping breast-feeding if use is deemed necessary
Precautions & Warnings
- Bronchospasm
- Use with caution in patients with airway obstruction
- Use in patients with renal impairment with caution
- Caution necessary if creatinine clearance is less than 30 ml/min
- Use with caution in patients with severe liver damage
- Patients should be warned against stopping the drug suddenly
- Discontinuation should be gradual and under observation
Overdose Effects
- Hypotension
- Congestive cardiac failure
- Unabsorbed drugs removal by gastric lavage or administration of activated charcoal
- Symptomatic treatment suggested
